Fear is almost always about what is going to happen next – meaning you are afraid of something that does not currently exist.
If the thing you fear does not exist, then it is purely imagined. Suffering from a fear of things that are non-existent is one definition of insanity. As such, there’s a huge community of people in the world today with a level of insanity that is socially accepted.
People tend to worry about things that either happened in the past or can happen in the future – a form of suffering that is due to something that currently doesn’t exist. Don’t get me wrong here: danger is real. But fear is a choice that we actually decide upon which is one part memory and one part imagination. Being lost in your imagination and allowing your mind to wander is the origin of your fear.
But if you live in the now, you will feel no fear.
Fear limits your vision and fuels low self-esteem. Fear can be used as an excuse that stops you from seeing and reaching your true potential, and the low self-esteem it generates keeps you enslaved in things that you are reluctant to do.
It is scientifically proven that we are all born with two innate fears: the fear of falling and the fear of loud noises. These are built into our DNA, and we are born with them primarily as survival mechanisms.
So where did all those other fears that you have come from?
Well, you were not born with them, so no doubt you have experienced something undesirable (either consciously or subconsciously) while you were growing up, and you now associate that pain or danger with whatever it is that you fear. These experiences, which you perceive will cause you harm, are what you try to avoid so you don’t feel those same emotions again.
To put it another way: you have learned your fear.
“You will never do anything in this world without courage.”
How you can use this advice starting today?
Be motivated by your fear.
This is a mindset shift that will take work, but it is well worth the effort.
What do I mean by that?
Anytime you have a fear, attack it. Don’t be scared of it.
The best way to conquer fear is to repeatedly force yourself to face whatever it is you’re afraid of.
Constant exposure to what you perceive you’re afraid of will help to condition you and your mind until the fear diminishes. Anxiety and fear become less powerful the more you face and deal with them.
